McKelvie String Studio offers private and group classes to all ages and abilities. Private violin lessons and viola lessons are offered to every student and are a requirement of the studio. Through this, good pedagogical practices and standards are instilled in the student. Learning to play a string instrument well is an extremely difficult task. The complicated technique required to learn to play with both flawless intonation and seamless bowing can only be achieved through private instruction and good practice habits.
Students of the studio are required to maintain a practice log, attend each and every lesson unless ill, and be present for as many ensemble rehearsals as possible. In addition, students are required to perform at least one solo per year at a recital, and participate on three group recitals per year.
Older students are encourage to maintain active in community musical opportunities.
